Enhancing market transparency through centralised OTC derivatives reporting

Serving the financial markets through our Trade Repository capability

In November 2024, Strate was granted a licence to operate as South Africa’s first Trade Repository (TR) by the Financial Sector Conduct Authority, with concurrence from the Prudential Authority.

The Trade Repository serves as a centralised registry for over-the-counter (OTC) derivatives contracts, creating infrastructure to support risk exposure transparency, enable efficiencies and mitigate risks in these markets.

This development represents a significant milestone for South Africa’s financial markets, addressing one of our outstanding G20 commitments from 2009 on OTC derivatives market reforms.

Strate’s Trade Repository creates value for the South African financial market by:

Data-led insights

Providing regulators with data-led insights for more effective policymaking and oversight

Improving transparency

Improving transparency for counterparty exposures and systemic risk

Creating infrastructure

Building infrastructure to support market development and align with global best practice

TR reporting requirements and specifications

The Trade Repository Business and Technical Requirements Specification documents are available.

We are partnering with the Authorities and OTC Derivatives Providers to establish a world-class Trade Repository that aligns South Africa to global best practice.
