As a self-regulatory organisation, mandated by the Financial Markets Act (2012), Strate  contributes to financial market stability by establishing, maintaining and monitoring standards that uphold confidence in the market.

Strate Rules and Directives are issued by Strate’s Legal, Risk and Compliance Division with the aim of upholding the stability and efficiency of South Africa’s financial market ecosystem, minimising systemic risk and promoting transparency and efficiency in the market.
