Strate Supervision, as a regulator, serves the South African financial market by monitoring the activities of regulated entities with the aim of upholding the stability of South Africa’s financial market ecosystem.

As an operationally independent division within Strate, Strate Supervision monitors and enforces the Financial Markets Act 12 of 2012 (FMA), Strate Rules and Directives through robust risk management principles and tools, thus contributing to upholding confidence in the financial market.

Strate’s regulatory and supervisory functions are aligned with the objectives of the FMA, which guides its approach to market oversight and risk management.

In 2024, Strate Supervision made significant progress in enhancing its risk-based supervision framework and digital transformation initiatives while navigating political transitions and ongoing economic challenges.
